Fuel Up to Play 60 in North Dakota

One of our focuses this year is to ask state level professional organizations for their support in promoting and activating Fuel Up to Play 60. The North Dakota Dietetic Association is the first organization in North Dakota and the first dietetic association in the Midwest to sign the Certificate of Support for Fuel Up to Play 60. I presented the request to the North Dakota Dietetic Association board of directors at their annual meeting where they voted unanimously to support the program. They agreed to add the Fuel Up to Play 60 link to their website, inform the 300-plus dietitians in North Dakota of this support via newsletters and emails, and encourage them to get involved in their local schools to activate Fuel Up to Play 60.

Other North Dakota Updates

Even though the North Dakota State Fair in Minot was cancelled due to flooding, we still had a chance to tell the “dairy story” at the Red River Valley Fair in West Fargo. Midwest Dairy set up a dairy display focusing on the “From Farm to Food to You” message in the Ag Education Center. The display included the types and amount of feed a typical dairy cow eats in one week, and showed how much she produces in one week using gallon jugs and milk crates. Daisy the Dairy Cow (a fiberglass replica donated last year by Midwest Dairy Association) was also there for kids to try their hand at milking. This year a dairy trivia board was developed as an addition to the exhibit. The North Dakota Dairy Princess was there to greet kids and adults along with Midwest Dairy intern Ana Schweer. The North Dakota State University Dairy Club also provided a heifer calf as part of the dairy exhibit. More than 15,000 fair-goers stopped by the Education Center.
