More than 180 people attended two Fuel Up to Play 60 End of Season Football Bashes at the SDSU Dykhouse Center and on the USD campus in November. Each day was a celebration for the Fuel Up to Play 60 program and the new Yippin’ Yotes Kids Club at USD and the Junior Jacks Kids Club at SDSU.
Breakout sessions for those attending included a nutrition topic by Teresa Beach, registered dietitian with Sanford Wellness Center, and a physical activity session led by Dawn Conrad, a registered dietitian on your Midwest Dairy staff, assisted by SDSU and USD athletes. A third session was offered by Nicolien Hammink and Vicki Schultz, local dairy producers. Drawings for NFL merchandise were held.
Kids and parents were encouraged to get involved in their school’s Fuel Up to Play 60 program and taken to the website to see whether their schools are signed up.
The partnership between Midwest Dairy and the kids clubs at the universities is a great way to introduce kids to Fuel Up to Play 60, and reward schools and kids for taking the pledge and activating the program in their schools and communities in a state where we don’t have an NFL team.
Other South Dakota Updates
South Dakota dairy producers Doug Ode, Brandon, and Ann Tornberg, Beresford, were selected to participate in a dairy producer communications training this past week in Kansas City. This training provides background, coaching and practice related to telling the story of modern dairy farm production practices. Both of these farms are located close to Sioux Falls and have many farm tours and potential media stops. In fact, just this past week, both Ann and Doug hosted reporters on their farms. You can watch Doug’s segment, where the reporter had a very interesting assignment!
