Butter Sculpting goes Live in Dairy Building at Fair

The butter cow has been a tradition at the Illinois State Fair since 1922, and in recent years, sculptor Sharon BuMann has been carving the exhibit so that it’s ready to unveil before the fair opens. But this year, visitors will be able to see BuMann at work as she puts the final touches on the butter cow sculpture during the fair’s first two days, August 11 and 12.

New Handouts Share Recipes, Flavored Milk Facts with Fair-goers

Visitors to the Illinois State Fair can pick up two popular free items at the Dairy Building this season, courtesy of Midwest Dairy Association and its dairy farmer funders.

State Fair Dairy Contest Draws Wide Range of Products

Before the Illinois State Fair even opens its doors, the Dairy Building is in full preparation mode. Not only is the butter sculptor at work, but a variety of dairy product companies from across the United States are delivering items for judging in the dairy products contest held there.

May 2012 Highlights

Midwest Dairy's work with the St. Louis Rams earned a "People's Choice" award at a national Fuel Up to Play 60 Forum recently. We were singled out for the individual Rams player cards containing the customized Rams Fuel Up to Play 60 logo, which were distributed to children by Rams players during their appearances.

April 2012 Highlights

Ten schools that did the best job of implementing Fuel Up to Play 60 in northern Illinois will receive a once-in-a-lifetime visit to Halas Hall this spring. Each school will send 10 kids to an event where they’ll participate in physical activity drills at the Peyton Center. Meanwhile, the top Fuel Up to Play 60 adult program advisors will be rewarded with a chance to attend a black-tie wine and cheese reception there.

March 2012 Highlights

We have a new Health and Wellness staff member serving southern Illinois and the St. Louis area. Laura Frese comes to Midwest Dairy from Hy-Vee in Quincy, where she was the store’s registered dietitian, doing product promotions, nutrition counseling, media and community outreach.
