Midwest Dairy Awards Four South Dakota Schools with Prizes, NFL Player Visits for Fuel Up to Play 60 Program Efforts

This school year, four South Dakota schools are being rewarded for their efforts to get active, eat healthy and make a difference in their schools. Students and adult advisors at Garfield Elementary in Sioux Falls and Woonsocket Elementary in Woonsocket earned Grand Prize honors in the state’s Fuel Up to Play 60 School Champions contest. Robert Frost Elementary in Sioux Falls took second place, and Edison Middle School claimed third prize in the contest.

New South Dakota Dairy Princess Hails from Milbank

Audrey Souza, Milbank, is South Dakota’s newest State Dairy Princess. She was crowned tonight (Wed., March 27) in Sioux Falls during the Central Plains Dairy Expo. Souza is the 58th woman to wear the crown.

Chicago Bears Wide Receiver Earl Bennett #80 Visits Two Health-Minded Local Schools

Earl Bennett (#80), a wide receiver for the Chicago Bears, will share his tips for eating healthy and staying active with students and staff at Timber Ridge Middle School (Plainfield CCSD 202) on Wednesday, March 20 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at 2101 Bronk Rd. in Plainfield, and at Gregory Math & Science Elementary Academy (City of Chicago SD 299) on Thursday, March 21 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 3715 W. Polk St. in Chicago – East Garfield Park.

February 2013 Highlights

Your Midwest Dairy Association district meetings are completed, and dairy producers were elected to serve on the South Dakota Division board. They will be officially installed at the April annual meeting.

January 2013 Highlights

All of the South Dakota livestock and ag organizations are conferring on animal well-being. The discussion for some of those groups is how to be proactive in protecting your right to farm and for others of us like Midwest Dairy, enhancing consumer confidence in the products you provide them.

December 2012 Highlights

Your Midwest Dairy S.D. Division board has set the dates for the two District meetings. Lunch and door prizes will be provided, and you can learn more about your checkoff and the programs to increase demand for dairy. This is also your opportunity to elect district officers and members to the Division board. Post cards will be arriving after the first of the year as a reminder.

South Dakota Dairy Princess

The South Dakota Dairy Princess has served as the state's official goodwill ambassador for the dairy industry for 58 years. The dairy princess typically makes appearances at consumer events, provides media interviews and helps to inform people about dairy farmers' dedication to their work, as well as communicating the importance of dairy products in our diet.
