Midwest Dairy Association

Illinois State Fair

The Dairy Building at the Illinois State Fair is the center of action each August, and Midwest Dairy Association provides the attractions there. Each year, the butter cow sculpture has a different theme, unveiled just before the fair begins. A dairy products contest, games and displays are featured in the building. But most popular by far – the Dairy Bar, where ice cream and other dairy treats abound.

Butter Cow Turns 90 Years Old

An icon at the Illinois State Fair will celebrate her 90th birthday this year. Since 1922, the butter cow has graced the Dairy Building at the fair in Springfield. The unusual work of art is an Illinois State Fair tradition, drawing in fair-goers to see her likeness sculpted in more than 600 to 800 pounds of butter.

Midwest Dairy Association Provides “Family Fun for Everyone” at the Illinois State Fair

When the Illinois State Fair opens this week, Midwest Dairy Association’s tradition will be an obvious reflection of the 2012 fair’s theme, “Family Fun for Everyone.” Thanks to the financial support of Illinois dairy farmers, the organization operates concessions and activities in the Dairy Building, which opened in 1903.
