Princess Kay of the Milky Way

The young woman who serves as Minnesota's state dairy princess wears the title of Princess Kay of the Milky Way, a name selected in a Department of Agriculture contest over fifty years ago. Princess Kay is crowned each August the night before the opening of the Minnesota State Fair, and she makes appearances not only during the Fair's 12-day run, but all year long.

Finalists for 60th Princess Kay of the Milky Way Title Named

This year’s finalists for the title of Princess Kay of the Milky Way have been named. The 12 young women from dairy farm backgrounds were selected at the conclusion of a three-day event for county dairy princesses held in St. Joseph. Each of the 12 will be sculpted in butter during the 2013 Minnesota State Fair. Princess Kay is crowned each year the night before the State Fair opens.

Path to 60th Princess Kay Title Underway

This year the Princess Kay of the Milky Way title marks its 60th anniversary and on May 19, the 12 women vying for that title will be named.

Dairy Princess Opportunities Abound

Across Minnesota, counties are currently seeking dairy princess candidates and in many parts of the state, that means applications, a contest and a banquet. But in other areas, it may mean one young woman simply needs to speak up and offer her time and enthusiasm to the role.
