Iowa’s Dairy Farmers Featured at State Fair

When the Iowa State Fair opens Thursday in Des Moines, it will be hard not to notice the presence of Iowa’s dairy farmers. From the crowning of their new dairy princess the night before the fair opens, to the popular concessions they operate in two locations, to a handful of educational displays and presentations, it’s clear the dairy community sees the State Fair as an opportunity to connect with its consumers.
Butter Cow Turns 90 Years Old

An icon at the Illinois State Fair will celebrate her 90th birthday this year. Since 1922, the butter cow has graced the Dairy Building at the fair in Springfield. The unusual work of art is an Illinois State Fair tradition, drawing in fair-goers to see her likeness sculpted in more than 600 to 800 pounds of butter.
Midwest Dairy Association Provides “Family Fun for Everyone” at the Illinois State Fair

When the Illinois State Fair opens this week, Midwest Dairy Association’s tradition will be an obvious reflection of the 2012 fair’s theme, “Family Fun for Everyone.” Thanks to the financial support of Illinois dairy farmers, the organization operates concessions and activities in the Dairy Building, which opened in 1903.

Missouri dairy farmers would like nothing better than knowing their consumers understand what it means to be a a caretaker of cows and farms, and that those same people enjoy dairy products daily. That’s why they’re heavily involved with the Missouri State Fair August 9-19 in Sedalia, Mo.
